TIMES 3 ILLUSTRATIONS. TIMES EDUCATION / SUNDAY TIMES TRAVEL / TIMES EDUCATIONAL

7 July 2009

Three fantastic commissions from the times newspaper have rolled in recently. Ive always been a fan of the paper, especially the weekend supplements so its fantastic to be on board! The topics illustrated so far have been Arnie the text book terminator, QTS tests and a dark love story with a spot of poisoning involved. Ill put up the work as soon as they hit the shelves.

GQ FU*K ILLUSTRATION AUG 2009

7 July 2009

Another tricky illo for Augusts edition of GQ magazine which should be out shortly. The article is all about swearing and the mission against literal illustration continues. Im super happy with the colour movement and concept behind this treat. Check it out and let me know what you think..

MAC USER JULY 2009 DPS FEATURE DIGITAL LEGACY ILLUSTRATION

7 July 2009

Check out this months Mac User magazine for a double page special feature illustration. Im super happy with how it turned out and is definitely up there with my favourite work to date. The article was pretty tricky as its about what happens to your digital data when you die. Im so sick of seeing anything with a compute monitor or the colour green when it comes to digital stuff, so I decided to come up with a concept that makes the mind whirl. Im on a mission to rid the world of anything literal and that mission begins now.

NEW STRING FOR THE BOW. MIKE TYSON PORTRAIT

8 June 2009

As I havent done many portrait illustrations for my portfolio I recently decided its about time I put some together. After watching the fabulous new Mike Tyson documentary, its was time to pay homage to the greatest boxer of all time. Wanting to change style slightly but still keep it Danny Allison, it was time to get screen printing. Im super happy with this new portrait style, and im already working out where this can go style wise in the future. Its already landed me a great portrait commission which I will put up once its been published. Progression is the key in order to remain fresh.!! Let me know what you think.

WORLD MUSIC SUMMER 2009 FESTIVALS ILLUSTRATION

8 June 2009

Yeeeehhhhhhaaaaaa, summers here and a fantastic open brief came my way giving me the opportunity to get messy with some country shapes earlier this month. The illustration is for a feature article about world music in the UK. It needed to portray music from all over the world but still show it was coming from British soil. After a brainstorm, I went with the idea of a trumpet player blasting out sounds that were in the shape of various countries including, Africa, South America, Australia, China etc. It needed to be vibrant, exciting, and noisy and that’s exactly how it turned out! Im super keen to get more map style illustration commissions, so if you need anything of the sort, then please drop me an email.

ECOLOGIST BROWN MOTH ERADICATION ILLUSTRATION

6 September 2008

A fantastic open brief came my way recently. Full reign on concept and artwork meant I could do some experimenting. This experiment consisted of ink, bleach and watercolour paper amongst other things. The article was about how in California a moth know as the light brown apple moth was being eradicated by spraying chemicals on certain crops that were favourite to this so called pest. However, the spraying was being done over residential areas causing some serious health issues to arise amongst the locals. Reports of asthma, skin irritation, and sight problems were amongst the claims. The illustration speaks for itself. I had some fun with this one.

NATURE MAGAZINE BIG DATA FRONT COVER

6 September 2008

I was commissioned to illustrate this weeks front cover of Macmillan publishings Nature Magazine using typography! Eeeek. Never have I ever used typography as the main subject so this was a personal challenge. The message I needed to get across was how scientists tackle such huge amounts of data in their ongoing research. My concept idea was to have this big digital type being scaled by various little scientists to back up the feeling of something massive. It worked, I created a 3d style typography mountain! Im looking forward to more typography work in the future.

RUNNERS WORLD RUNNING STRONG FEATURE ILLUSTRATION

6 September 2008

This months edition of Runners World sees a double page brought to life with two striking illustrations. The magazines art director saw a previous illustration I had produced for Wanderlust travel magazine about trekking safety and soon after the phone rang. The article was about running through pain barriers and getting over previous injury and regaining confidence after injury recovery. The article needed to portray confidence and needed to had a positive vibe, so I had in mind a fairly dark image with positive symbols lighting up the areas around the runners. The illustrations worked well and Runners World had this to say: Were very happy with your work and personally I have found you fantastic to deal with. I hope we will be working together again very soon. This is always fantastic to hear and makes the whole process worthwhile. A new style seems to be evolving. Let me know your thoughts.

TIME OUT LONDON RESTAURANT 08 GUIDE ILLUSTRATED

25 August 2008

I have just completed a week long design session consisting of six feature illustrations including a double page spread for Time Out London for their 2008 eating out guide. There were also the usual feature trimmings running through the article. I cant go into much detail as of yet for copyright reasons but as soon as it hits the shelf ill put the images up. I am super happy with all 6 illustrations and so were they, which is always a bonus.

THE TIMES SEX ARTICLE

25 August 2008

The Times Newspaper recently commissioned me to illustrate a rather raunchy article debating doggy style sex in front of a mirror. This proved to be fairly difficult as there were serious restrictions on nudity and any reference to dogs was out of the question for obvious reasons. woof woof However, my girlfriend agreed to pose nude after some gentle persuasion and between us we hit the nail on the head. I will add the image to the gallery in the next couple of days.

MT Magazine eco-nomics Illustration

19 June 2008

Check out this months eco-nomics section for a speedy dirty treat. The illustration accompanies an article about how cars shouldnt be driven and what damage they do to human life and the environment. Something literal was required but with a little spice added this turned into a fantastic illustration that gave me the opportunity to reveal some new elements into my design work.

BBC Illustration for SIZEMOLOGY

3 June 2008

The BBC commissioned me to go all ‘toxic green’ for a b movie style advert for the showcasing of an up and coming small screen short films festival in Liverpool. I have never tackled the neon style colour range before but it proved a success after mixing up some seriously odd colours. Check it out in print, poster form and on various BBC websites. The Short films are fantastic and they were the influencing force behind the main design. I never thought I would be spending my days carving faces into alka seltzers and photographing Snails in order to make a living. What a great job.

FLAIR ILLUSTRATOR OF THE MONTH

3 June 2008

BIG ISSUE LONDON GREEN ILLUSTRATION

3 June 2008

Another double page spread and inset illustration by yours truly in this weeks Big Issue in London for their Green Issue Special. Basically the article is about how companies are riding the green wave but how manipulating the issue for financial gain is coming to an end. Consumers are creating a backlash against this sort of marketing. Well done humans, its about time.

MT ECO CARRIER SAG ILLUSTRATION

3 June 2008

Again, I find myself creating a character out of something strange. A plastic bag. Im nearly 30 and this is what I do on a regular basis. This illustration accompanies my regular spot article about the demonisation of plastic bags. I wanted to create a somewhat sad plastic bag, so check it out and have a chuckle. His nickname is CARRIER SAG.

The Sperm Speed Trap

21 February 2008

Hands up if your sick of the amount of cameras placed on the roads waiting in a craftily placed area such as at the bottom of a subtle decline. I decided to turn my rant into a personal project and my mind wandered. Where next i asked myself,? ahhhh...the womb. Thats a great place where we can tempt victims to go as fast as they can. Nice. Enjoy the illustration and think about what you see. There are some serious levels of thought provoking visuals treats in this one.

Keegan, Keegan, Keegan.

21 January 2008

With the return of Kevin Keegan to Newcastle United it was only a matter of time before i would have to illustrate something on this topic. Check out my keegan ill in februarys edition of the Manchester United magazine.
